The Swift Current Indians stretched their winning streak to four games with another road win Thursday. The Indians scored three runs in the eighth inning and two in the ninth for an 8-5 comeback win over the Yorkton Cardinals to improve to 6-3 on the road this season.
Local pitcher Taylor MacDonell earned the win with two scoreless relief innings.
Jake Gonzalez walked one and struck out three during a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save. He also had three hits and two runs batted in while making the start in right field.
Third baseman Matt Henriksen walked three times and came around to score three runs. Catcher Taylor Steen added three hits and came around to score twice.
Swift Current’s Chad Schultz got the start in left field and picked up two hits and an RBI to improve his average to .368 in 14 games this season.
The Indians improved to 15-5 and increased their Central Division lead over Saskatoon to 5.5 games.
The Indians and Cardinals will meet for a second straight game in Yorkton on Friday. They are back at home to host the Melville Millionaires on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. at Mitchell Field.
