The Swift Current Mosquito Indians couldn’t quite make the championship game at their home tournament over the weekend.

The Mosquito Indians opened the tournament Friday with a 14-3 mercy rule win over the Regina Diamondbacks.

They tied the Saskatoon Dirt Bags 2-2 to open the day Saturday before dropping a 7-3 loss to Weyburn.

The Tribe bounced back Sunday morning with an 11-0 mercy rule shortened win to finish the round robin with a 2-1-1 record. They finished in a second-place tie but lost in the tie-breaker due to runs allowed.

“The kids are playing really well,” said coach Brad Bell. “We are not scoring enough runs right now, we need to get our bats going. But our pitching is really good, that would be the strength of our team. Defensively we are getting better every weekend.”
