The Swift Current Indians were unable to make it two straight wins over the Medicine Hat Mavericks as they dropped a 5-4 loss at home Tuesday.
One night after blanking the host Mavericks 4-0, the Tribe allowed two runs in the eighth inning to squander a late lead. Garrett Anderson suffered the loss after allowing three hits and two runs over two relief innings.
Brian Ranta made the start and allowed seven hits and three runs over six innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Cody Chartrand pitched a scoreless ninth for the Tribe to lower his league leading earned run average to 0.50 in nine appearances this season.
Indians second baseman Tanner Morache was two-for-four with two runs batted in, while third baseman Alex Mortensen was on base three times and scored twice.
The Indians dropped to 9-13 and sit second in the Western Major Baseball League's Central Division. Medicine Hat improved to 17-8 and remain seocnd in the West Division.
The Indians will be off Wednesday before attempting to gain ground on the Central leading Moose Jaw Miller Express (11-12) when they visit Mitchell Field Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
