Tribe split with Beavers

The Swift Current Indians split a Thursday evening double header against the visiting Weyburn Beavers at Mitchell Field.

The Tribe opened the double header with a six-run first inning on their way to an 11-3 win. Leadoff man Carter Yagi was a catalyst with two hits, a walk, two runs scored, two stolen bases, and a run batted in. Catcher Will Thorp finished three-for-four with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Aaron Dunsmore blasted a two-run home run in the fourth to help seal the win.

Brian Ranta moved to 3-1 with the win as he allowed six hits and three runs over five innings with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Indians allowed all three runs in the sixth inning of game two in a 3-2 loss. Alex Tufts suffered the loss despite allowing only two hits and one earned run over five and a third innings with one walk and four strikeouts.

Brennan Peterson and Tanner Morache both knocked in runs during a two-run fifth to take a brief lead.

The Indians improved their record to 8-9 as they lead the Central Division, while Weyburn moved to 8-14.

Next action for the Indians will be Friday when they visit the Moose Jaw Miller Express (9-12).
