Swift Current now boasts back-to-back wins over division leading teams. Prior to knocking off the Central Division leading Yellow Jackets last night, the Indians snapped a six-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over the East Division leading Regina Red Sox on Tuesday.

Tribe starter Brian Ranta threw seven innings of shutout ball, striking out eight and allowing just six hits while improving to 2-1 on the season. Ranta now has a 1.33 earned run average and a team leading 22 strikeouts with only two walks during over 20 innings on the mound.

Coady Chartrand yielded one run on one hit during his two inning appearance.

At the plate the Indians scattered 13 hits and left 13 runners on base while scoring single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

Swift Current opened the scoring in the fourth when Aaron Dunsmore hit a lead off single, advanced to third on an Alex Mortensen double, and scored on a Brennan Peterson single.

The Indians scored the eventual winning run in the fifth when Cam Newell scored on a wild pitch after singling and stealing both second and third base. Newell led the Tribe with three hits during five plate appearances to improve his batting average to a team leading .375.

Will Thorp counted an insurance run in the seventh when he led off with a single and was driven home on a Kirk Haviland single.

Saskatoon starter Jake Stalzer was touched for three runs on 12 hits during six and two third innings of work. Roby Romero gave up only a single hit while recording the final four outs.

Swift Current plays their third game in three nights tonight when they travel to Regina to face the Red Sox for the second time this week.
