The Swift Current Indians turned six hits into a 6-2 win over the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Thursday to close out their home schedule for the regular season.
The Express created their own demise with three errors, three hit batters, and three walks to the Indians, who managed only one extra base hit.
The Tribe utilized five different pitchers with nothing left to play for in the standings. Rookie Reiley Grose made the start and allowed just two hits and one run over four innings. Taylor MacDonnell picked up the win as he tossed a scoreless inning to improve to 4-0 this season.
Second baseman Collin Hetzler led the offense with two hits and two runs scored. First baseman Relly Mercurio added a single, a sacrifice fly, and was hit by a pitch as he cashed in two runs.
The Indians cemented their home record at 16-4 to conclude the season. They improved to 25-15 overall with their fourth straight win, while dropping the Express to 17-24.
The Indians will now face the Medicine Hat Mavericks in the first round of the WMBL playoffs as they look to defend their 2010 championship.
Games one and two will be played Saturday and Sunday in Medicine Hat. Games three and four will be played in Swift Current at Mitchell Field on Monday and Tuesday.
Game five, if necessary, would be played Wednesday in Medicine Hat. The two teams split the four-game season series.
