Swift Current Minor Baseball (SCMB) is getting ready to once again serve as host for the Saskatchewan Baseball Associations Provincial Championships.
Fourteen teams from across the province will be coming to Swift Current from July 17-19 to determine who will take home bragging rights as Provincial Champions in two divisions.
Eight teams in the Mosquito AA (players aged 9-11 years) and six teams in the Pee
Wee AA (players aged 12 & 13 years) will be competing against each other in a pooled round robin format to establish which four teams in each division will make up the playoff rounds on Sunday.
The Mosquito division will include a total of eight teams from Swift Current, Lloydminster, Prince Albert, Weyburn, North Battleford, Yorkton, Martensville, and Estevan.
Meanwhile in the Pee Wee division, six teams from Swift Current, Weyburn, Martensville, Lloydminster, Yorkton and Prince Albert will battle for top spot.
“We are very pleased to be selected by Saskatchewan Baseball to serve as host for Provincial Championships”, stated Wendell Kehler, President of SCMB. “Over the years of hosting provincials and major tournaments, Swift Current Minor Baseball has built up a solid reputation of well-organized and coordinated events. This one is proving to be no different.”
Games begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon and will continue in the afternoon and all day Saturday. Playoffs begin Sunday morning and the finals will be played on Sunday afternoon. All games will be played at the Minor Ball Complex on 19th Avenue NE in Swift Current. Mitchell Field will serve as host for the Opening Ceremonies and Skills Competition on Friday evening.
