Maple Creek’s Ross Kreutzer had another outstanding weekend on the Canadian Cowboys’ Association rodeo circuit. Kreutzer entered the weekend trailing only Brandon’s Kirk Thompson in the CCA Saddle Bronc standings and won both of his events over the Labour Day weekend at two different rodeos in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
He opened the weekend with a win at the Rough n Ready Roughstock Event in Stoughton on August 30. Kreutzer scored 78 points on Geez Louise for $743 in top spot. Piapot’s Casey Bertram was third after a 73-point ride on Trail Mix for $487. Maple Creek’s Mike Gordon followed in fourth spot after scoring 66 points on Judgement Day for $359.
Maple Creek’s Lane Link also found the money at the special event in Stoughton. He tied for fourth in Bareback with a 70-point ride on Game Changer for $249.
Kreutzer was also at the Steel Wheel Stampede in Stettler, AB, where he tied for top spot in Saddle Bronc when he scored 77 points on Cervus Recharge for $834 in a tie with Provost’s Jeremy Tennant.
Casey Bertram was third in Stettler as well with a 75-point ride on Forget Me Not for $598. Gordon added $220 with a fifth-place tie after scoring 70 points on Taken Chances.
Southwest cowboys swept the money in Bareback, led by Monty Koopman with a 73-point ride on Cross Roads for $626 for the Consul cowboy. Link and Brady Bertram, both riding out of Maple Creek, tied for second and $677 apiece. Link had 75 points on Side By Side, while Brady Bertram scored 70 points on City Storm.
A couple of Southwest cowboys found the money in Team Roping at the Steel Wheel Stampede. Hazenmore’s Ben Switzer worked with Jim-Bob Gommersall (Moose Jaw) to place fifth in 10.9 seconds for $891. Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod combined with Garrett Brownlee (Moose Jaw) to tie for sixth in 11.4 seconds for $526. Kyle Chappel (Gravelbourg) and Brady Chappel (Moose Jaw) won the event in 5.2 seconds.
The CCA returns to the Southwest for the 50th Annual Indoor Bob Larson Memorial Rodeo in Val Marie on September 19-20.
