Southwest cowboys and cowgirls won or tied for top spot in six of eight events at the Reno Rodeo in Consul on August 2-3.
Maple Creek’s Ross Kreutzer was the top cowboy in the 14-man Saddle Bronc field. He won $531 with a 78-point ride on Chiniki Strip. Leader’s Cody Resch followed in second spot after scoring 72 points on Bronco Billy for $439.
Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram was the top performer in Bareback when he rode Sunday Stepper for 79 points to earn $522. Swift Current’s Linden Woods placed second with 75 points on One More Mouse for $391. Tompkins’ Jason Hofer was fourth with 71 points on Wildwood Flower for a $130 payday.
Val Marie’s Wyatt Hayes tied for top spot in the 28-man Tie Down Roping field with Coronach’s Vaughn Warken when both cowboys finished in 8.3 seconds for $739 apiece. Mankota’s Shawn Williamson tied for fifth in 9.8 seconds for $195.
Maple Creek’s Colby Gilbert was back in the money when she finished faster than 42 other cowgirls in Ladies Barrel Racing in 16.11 seconds for $828. Abbey’s Alanna Furseth was seventh in 16.66 seconds for $180.
Southwesterners were a part of three of the six money-winning Team Roping entries. Maple Creek’s Tanner Jones and Justin Dubeau (Redcliff) topped the 45-team field in 6.3 seconds to claim $2,022. Hayes and Shawn Williamson were third in 7.5 seconds for $1,325. Waldeck’s Tuftin and Scott McLeod finished in 8.4 second to collect $627 for a fifth-place finish.
Lancer’s Chad Hartman was the sixth and final event winner when he scored 72 points to earn $306 in Junior Steer Riding. Hazenmore’s Chase Switzer and Maple Creek’s Brady Resch each earned $114 when they finished in a four-way tie for second spot.
Three Southwest girls rounded out the money winners with top-four finishes in Junior Girls Barrel Racing. Maple Creek’s Hallie Anderson was second in 16.54 seconds for $243. Mankota’s Kassidy Williamson was right behind her in third spot in 16.55 seconds for $162 and Bailey Briere, also out of Mankota, was fourth in 16.67 seconds for $81.
The Canadian Cowboys’ Association will be back in the Southwest for the Kyle Community Rodeo on Saturday and Sunday.
