The 28th Annual Herbert Stampede will take place this weekend on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The Canadian Cowboys’ Association approved rodeo will have performances on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. with a total of $40,000 in prizes up for grabs.
Among the local cowboys for fans to cheer on in Herbert will be Rush Lake's Levi Speir. Speir will take part in Bull Riding and Tie Down Roping on Saturday afternoon.
The McLeod family will also be looking for success in the closest rodeo to their hometown of Waldeck. Tyce McLeod was ranked 14th in the most recent Tie Down standings and will be in the arena Sunday afternoon for Tie Down and will also work with Tyce McLeod in Team Roping.
Tuftin McLeod is the number four ranked header and will work with Scott, the fifth ranked heeler, in Team Roping during Slack on Saturday evening. Tuftin McLeod is also ranked 15th in Tie Down and will perform on Sunday in that event.
The top ranked Southwest cowboy in Saddle Bronc is Maple Creek's Ross Kreutzer. The fourth ranked cowboy will be in action on Saturday, one of 14 Saddle Bronc competitors in Herbert over the three days.
The Bareback field consists of 11 cowboys, including Swift Current's Linden Woods, who sits fourth in the standings and is listed as the first cowboy in action on Friday.
Tie Down Roping will feature 39 cowboys, including Val Marie's Wyatt Hayes, the fourth ranked cowboy, on Friday.
29 cowboys are expected to take part in Steer Wrestling, including Val Marie's Riley Hayes, the 12th ranked competitor in that event. He is slated for action on Saturday evening during Slack.
The 40-cowgirl Ladies Barrel Racing field will feature the CCA leader, Wood Mountain's Nicole Pana, on Saturday during Slack. Maple Creek's Colby Gilbert, who sits third in the standings, is the first rider slated for Friday evening's performance.
Swift Current's Blaine Switzer is currently the fifth ranked header in the CCA Team Roping standings. He will work with Matt Switzer (Yorkton) during the final performance Sunday.
The Herbert Stampede will also host two junior and two novice events throughout the weekend. Maple Creek's Brady Resch currently leads the Junior Steer Riding standings and will enter the arena on Sunday.
The Junior Girls Barrel Racing field is comprised of 33 riders. Maple Creek's Mardi Yarshenko sits second in the standings and is set to perform Friday. Leader's Cody Resch, currently second in the Novice Saddle Bronc standings, will perform on Friday in Herbert as well.
The weekend will also feature the Wild West Parade on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Christian Cowboy Church on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The cabarets will feature Rob McLaine & Against the Grain on Friday and Saturday.
