Four Southwest winners at CCA rodeo in Kindersley

The Canadian Cowboys’ Association rodeo circuit made a stop in Kindersley on May 29-31 where 18 Southwest competitors won money, including four event winners.

Consul’s Monty Koopman helped set the pace for the Southwest when he won Bareback. He scored 82 points on Whisky Drummer for $939 in the win. Swift Current’s Linden Woods placed third with 78 points on Dae Ja Blue for $615 during a strong rodeo weekend. Tompkins’ Jason Hofer was sixth in Bareback with 71 points on Dae Ja Blue as well for $81.

Maple Creek’s Brady Resch added an event win in Junior Steer Riding when he tied for top spot with 72 points for $515. Lancer’s Chad Hartman and Hazenmore’s Chanse Switzer tied for third spot with 71 points for $228.

Leader’s Cody Resch won Novice Saddle Bronc by a comfortable margin when he scored 70 points to earn $438.

Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod continued his strong opening segment of the season when he tied for top spot in Tie Down Roping in Kindersley. He tied with Solsgirth’s Devon Porter in 9.6 seconds to earn $949. Val Marie’s Wyatt Hayes was right behind them in third in 10.1 seconds for $718.

Wyatt Hayes roped his way into more money in Team Roping when he combined with Kevin Grad (Vibank) to place second in 6.8 seconds for $2,448. Val Marie’s Ryan and Riley Hayes were third in Team Roping in 7.8 seconds for $2,080. Swift Current’s Andrew Furseth and Blaine Switzer were fourth in 7.9 seconds for $1,713. Clay Brownlee (Moose Jaw) and Tyler Paicu (Avonlea) won the event in 5.7 seconds.

A pair of Southwest cowboys found the money in Saddle Bronc in Kindersley. Piapot’s Casey Bertram tied for second with a 76-point ride on Role Model for $653. Maple Creek’s Ross Kreutzer tied for fourth when he scored 75 points aboard Minnie for $277. Brandon’s Kirk Thompson won Saddle Bronc with a 79-point ride on Spare Change.

Maple Creek’s Lane Link was second in Novice Bareback when he scored 64 points for $302, behind Oak Lake’s Bailey Plaisier, who won the event with 67 points.

The Ladies Barrel Racing field featured 51 cowgirls and Maple Creek’s Colby Gilbert placed eighth in 14.67 seconds for $203. Medicine Hat’s Alex Hanson won the crowded event in 14.36 seconds.

Maple Creek’s Mardi Yarshenko placed fourth in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 15.23 seconds for $332. Ashley Cleveland (Bengough) and Shaylee Mcmann (Donalda) tied for the win in 15.09 seconds.

The CCA is in the Southwest this weekend for the Sandhill Rodeo in Lancer on Saturday and Sunday.
