Track and field records fall in Weyburn

10 new records were set by eight Southwest athletes from four different schools at the Weyburn Invitational Track Meet over the weekend.

Shaunavon’s Nixen Voll led the way with three Bantam Boys records. He established a new mark in the 100 Metre Dash in 12.58 seconds. He also jumped 10.8 metres to set a new standard in Triple Jump. Voll also cleared the bar at 1.58 metre to set a new High Jump record.

Maple Creek’s Cassandra Benson set a new Bantam Girls Javelin record when she came up with a 20.11-metre effort in Weyburn.

Swift Current’s Regan Martin set a new record in the Midget Boys 100 Metre Dash in 11.84 seconds.

Shaunavon’s Jordan Voll needed just 15.92 seconds to set a new Midget Boys 100 Metre Hurdles record.

Cabri’s Kyra Braaten is the new record holder in Midget Girls Long Jump after flying 4.52 metres.

Shaunavon’s Brock Larson added another meet record for the Shadows in the Junior Boys 200 Metre Dash when he finished in 23.85 seconds.

Swift Current’s Reid Fritzke set a new standard in Senior Boys Shot Put when he came up with a 12.77-metre effort.

Swift Current’s Cassie Janzen established a new mark in the Quadathlon 100 Metre Dash in 13.45 seconds.

The track and field season will really heat up next week with the Whitemud meet in Consul on Tuesday, the Cypress Hills meet in Swift Current on Wednesday, and the Rolling Hills meet in Swift Current on Thursday.

The District Championships will be held in Swift Current on May 28 and the SHSAA Provincial Championships will take place in Moose Jaw on June 6-7.
