16U Junior SunDogs place fourth in Prince Albert

The Swift Current 16U Boys Junior SunDogs volleyball team placed fourth at a Sask Cup tournament in Prince Albert over the weekend.

The SunDogs, coached by Adam Wilson and Brandon Schultz, won three matches and lost three matches against six different teams in Prince Albert.

They opened the weekend Saturday afternoon with an easy win over the Lloydminster Lakeland Rustlers (25-17, 25-12) and followed up with another win over Regina RVC Gold (26-16, 25-16).

The 16U SunDogs lost their first match against the Prince Albert Smashing Bananas 15U. They won the first set 25-17 before falling 23-25 and 5-15. They bounced back with a three-set win over Saskatoon Huskies HVS (21-25, 25-21, 16-14) Sunday morning to win their round robin group.

They suffered a second loss when they fell 16-25 and 17-25 to the Prince Albert Smashing Bananas 16U in the semi-final and then finished their weekend with a straight set loss to the Edam Northwest Fury (20-25, 20-25) in the bronze medal match to place fourth out of nine teams.

The 16U Junior SunDogs will be right back in action this weekend when head to Saskatoon to compete in a tournament hosted by the Husky Volleyball Club.
