Swift Current Broncos - Light It Up
The Swift Current Broncos are now winless in three games after suffering a 3-2 shootout loss to the host Kootenay Ice Saturday.
Tim Bozon and Luke Philp both scored in the shootout for the Ice, while Jake DeBrusk and Graham Black were unable to score for the Broncos.
The Broncos scored twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead but Jaedon Descheneau scored with 2:06 left on the clock to force overtime.
Philp had opened the scoring for Kootenay with a powerplay goal late in the second period.
DeBrusk tied it with a power play goal 5:32 into the third period and Graham Black gave the Broncos a 2-1 lead 2:04 later with his 17th goal of the season.
Eetu Laurikainen suffered the shootout loss with 31 saves on 33 shots over 65 minutes.
Mackenzie Skapski picked up the win with 41 saves as Kootenay improved to 18-16-2-0. Swift Current remains in the East Division lead with a 19-12-1-4 record.
The Broncos will continue their road trip Sunday when they visit the Calgary Hitmen, who have won all three previous meetings in the four-game season series.
Bronco Bits: Black now has points in seven straight games with 13 points over that stretch. The Broncos have only won once in five shootout games. They have scored only once on 14 shootout attempts and allowed five goals on 14 attempts. Connor Sanvido has the Broncos only shootout goal this season. Defenseman Julius Honka played his final game before leaving the team to participate in Finland's World Junior Selection Camp.
