Southwest cowboys and cowgirls continued to roll along in the Canadian Cowboys’ Association at the Edam Rodeo August 23-23.
Southwest competitors won money in seven of the nine events in Edam, including four cowboys who won their respective events and one who found the money in two different events.
Maple Creek’s Ross Kreutzer filled his pockets with $574 for yet another win in Saddle Bronc when he scored 81 points on Twister. In second spot was Leader’s Cody Resch with a 74-point ride on Fingerprints for $475. Piapot’s Casey Bertram placed sixth in Saddle Bronc with a 69-point ride on Lonestar for $99.
The Southwest swept the top two spots in Bareback as well. Consul’s Monty Koopman won the event with 80 points on Big Shot for $475. Piapot’s Brady Bertram finished second with a 75-point ride on 42 Below to take home $356.
Leader’s Cody Resch was the top cowboy in Novice Saddle Bronc. He won the event with 70 points for $216. Leader’s Jarryd Elsasser was fourth with 58 points for $81.
Maple Creek’s Lane Link was the final event winner when he topped Novice Bareback with 67 points for $129.
Three Southwest cowgirls were among the leaders in Ladies Barrel Racing. Mankota’s April Williamson finished second in 12.288 seconds to earn $552. Saskatoon’s Shelby Noval won the event in 11.887 seconds. Maple Creek’s Kerry Maynes was third in 12.359 seconds for $437. Cali Yarshenko, also riding out of Maple Creek, finished sixth in 12.52 seconds for $115.
Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod placed second in Tie Down Roping in 9.7 seconds for $449. Duchess, Alberta’s Danny Finnerty won the event in 9.1 seconds.
Tuftin McLeod teamed up with Scott McLeod to place fourth in Team Roping in 6.0 seconds for $338. Tyler Paicu (Estevan) and Brett Olson (Southey) won the event in 4.7 seconds.
North Battleford’s Lane Laplante won Bull Riding with 78 points on Slippery Sam and Matt Richardson (Olds, AB) won Steer Wrestling in 4.7 seconds.
