Friday, June 21 marked the return of the Swift Current Windscape Kite Festival.  The festival celebrates it's 10th anniversary this year.

The festival featured kites from 24 different celebrity kite flyers from around the world, as well a few amateur flyers, like this one here.

Things get a little adventurous in the public field, where local kite flyers were offered a chance to take part.

Believe it or not, there actually is such a thing as too much wind at a kite festival.  Strong gusts made it difficult on both celebrity flyers and the public alike to keep their kites in the air without getting damaged.

Sadly, the weather wasn't ideal for the entire day.  Here one celebrity flyer walks underneath a giant tiger kite as rain clouds roll in.

Fortunately there was plenty to do inside the main tent when the weather got bad.  In this photo, children's performer Gustavo the Impossibilist warms up before attempting "feats of unrealized stupidity."

Just like not all birds were made for flying, not all kites were meant to soar.  This slug kite still looks impressive though during a rainy stretch in the afternoon.

This kite takes advantage of a dry spell to twirl higher and higher into the air during the afternoon.

Strong winds made flying bigger kites difficult, but this octopus kite didn't seem to have much of a problem filling the skies towards the end of the day.

June 22 is the final day of the festival.  The event kicks off at 10:20 when Repentigny, Quebec's Jean Lamoureux takes to the field, followed by Craig Wilson, 180GO! and Bud Taylor.
