We would like to draw the City Council's attention to a concern that might have been put on hold, possibly in the hope that it has been forgotten.
Well, it has not.
We are talking about the safety issue of people walking across the #1 Highway.
Its not too bad with an occasional pedestrian going across, but now with two schools going up north of the TransCanada, the potential for disaster goes up exponentially.
How many of the council members would want their kids walking across the #1 Highway, with their minds occupied with schooling events.
The potential for a tragedy is increasing and I think this problem needs to be solved.
Since we're forever comparing ourselves to bigger centers (Saskatoon, Regina) both have pedestrian overpasses. We realize it's an expensive solution, but fines are no solution.
We are spending $1.3 million on an all-weather track, which is an investment. But we're asking the public and City Council to come up with a plan to protect our kids and citizens.
This situation should be a real high priority, and I for one don't want to see anymore preventable deaths happen on Highway #1.
