Strangers thanked for kindness after accident

On March 22nd, I was in my first car accident. My car was t-boned by a truck when the driver failed to yield. My car is destroyed, but thankfully, I am not. I wanted to thank the wonderful people who took the time out of their day to help me and make sure I was safe.

To the man who, if I remember correctly, was a former first aid respondent for the police, thank you for calling the ambulance and the police, as well as making sure I was properly taken care of.

To the woman who pulled over right after I was hit and came to my side, thank you so much for holding my hand through it all. Thank you for keeping me calm while I was in shock, and thank you for staying with me until I was loaded into the ambulance.

To the woman who also pulled over and took the time out of her day to help a complete stranger, thank you so much for all of your help. Thank you for covering me up with a purple blanket to keep the cold away from me. Whoever you are, thank you. The blanket travelled with me the whole time and kept me safe and warm.

To my family and friends, thank you for being there for me. Thank you for turning around when you were on your way to Medicine Hat, thank you for coming to the hospital to find me, thank you for saying “You don’t get it, that’s my sister!” when the police said you couldn’t get me out of my car yourself, and thank you for rolling your eyes at my shenanigans when I high-fived you while strapped to a stretcher.

To all the staff at the hospital and emergency services, thank you for taking care of me.  Without you, I’m sure I wouldn’t have walked away from that accident with only a few cuts and bruises. To Dr. James, thank you for not taking my picture and putting it in the Booster like I did to you when I covered the health expo for the newspaper back in January. Thank you for putting up with me in the emergency room and for providing me with a familiar face and a sense of humour.

I am very thankful to have such amazing people in my life, whether I know them or not. To put your own lives on pause to help a girl you don’t even know is an absolutely beautiful thing to do. You are wonderful human beings, and your kindness needs to be acknowledged.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
