Privacy laws should be toughened by province

The Green Party of Saskatchewan (GPS) is concerned that the Wall Government sees no need for stronger legislation to protect the privacy of citizens whose private information is in the hands of public employees.

SGI Minister Donna Harpauer is not concerned by Privacy Commissioner Gary Dickson’s call in a report to limit the amount of private information a public employee can access about an individual. Every person has a right to privacy and the Wall Government needs to follow through with the Commission’s report. If the Minister is not concerned over intrusion into the privacy of individuals, then the priorities of this government need to be questioned. The Saskatchewan Party Government could table legislation as soon as this fall to toughen the privacy laws surrounding an individual’s private information.
