A soaking rain brought a screeching halt to harvest operations in Southern Saskatchewan yesterday, with unseasonably large precipitation totals hitting across a wide region.

The Southwest and South Central portions of the province were hardest hit, with Environment Canada reporting that a strong low pressure system stalled over the Cypress Hills and delivering heavy rains in the Southwest.

While Environment Canada officially highlighted Swift Current received 3.78 centimetres of rain at their official weather monitoring station, social media and other weather tracking services recorded considerable higher totals. Sourcing information sites like CoCoRaHS (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network) the Weatherbug network, as well as Twitter reports, the hardest hit community in the region was Vanguard where 6.45 centimetres of rain fell. Province wide the hardest hit community was Moosomin, where over eight centimetres of precipitation has fallen.
