Canadian Pacific Railway crews are at the scene of a trail derailment just east of Waldeck where over 30 cars derailed on Thursday evening after strong winds caused the rail cars to leave the track.

"The cause was confirmed to be extreme and sudden weather present in the area known as plow winds," Canadian Pacific Spokesperson Salem Woodrow stated in a phone interview.

The derailment occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, and there were no injuries or no safety issues connected to the accident.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is also deploying a team of investigators to the scene in order to gather information about the derailment.

Westbound traffic along the TransCanada is currently slowed to allow crews to safely work at the scene which is adjacent to the roadway.
