Yorkton Rural RCMP

2014-05-20

1:30 p.m.

 

On Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at 6:45 a.m. two adults on a farm in the RM of Wallace, approximately 12 kilometers northeast of Yorkton, were awoken by what was reported to be an explosion-type popping sound and determined their detached garage was on fire. They called 911 and Yorkton Fire Department, EMS and Yorkton Rural RCMP responded.

 

The quick response by the Yorkton Fire Department saved the house.  Fire damage to the house consisted of exterior damage to the siding and smoke damage inside the house. The detached garage, along with one Jetta car inside and one Jetta car outside the garage, were destroyed by the fire.  

 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  Both occupants of the home are safe and escaped without injury.

Warman RCMP

On Friday, May 16, RCMP and civilian search and rescue personnel conducted a search for Michael O'KEEFE, an 80 year old man reported missing from Saskatoon.  It was confirmed that Mr. O'Keefe was last seen in the vicinity of a business called the Berry Barn, southwest of Saskatoon, near the South Saskatchewan River.

 

The search was conducted with the use of a helicopter, zodiac water craft and ground searchers.  The search area encompassed both shorelines of the river between the Berry Barn and the Circle Drive Bridge in Saskatoon.  The Zodiac water craft were used to check areas along the shoreline and the helicopter conducted numerous aerial passes between the Berry Barn and the Clarksboro Ferry Crossing, northeast of Saskatoon.  All searches were concluded with negative results.

 

Search activity has been suspended.  No further searches are planned at this point.  There have been no public reports made to the RCMP of any sightings of Mr. O'Keefe.

Shellbrook/Prince Albert RCMP

12:30 p.m.

 

On Sunday, May 18, 2014, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Shellbrook and Prince Albert RCMP responded to a call of a possible drowning on Round Lake, approximately 20 kilometers north of Highway #3 in the RM of Buckland.

 

Two females from Saskatoon, ages 23 and 24, were in separate kayaks in the middle of Round Lake when one kayak capsized. The second kayak then capsized and the two females attempted to swim to shore and lost contact with each other.

 

The 23-year-old female reached shore and sought assistance. She was transported by EMS to hospital in Prince Albert for observation and has since been released. The body of the 24-year-old female was located by Shellbrook RCMP on the south side of Round Lake at approximately 9:45 p.m.

 

Drugs and alcohol may have played a role in the incident and neither female was wearing a life jacket. The weather conditions were good and the lake was calm at the time of the incident.

 

The name of the deceased 24-year-old female will not be released at the request of the family.

2014 May 20 810 am

 

A 22 year old man has been charged with Breaking out after committing a Theft after allegedly hiding out in a business in the early morning ours of May 17th and waiting for the business to close.  He then stole a bottle of alcohol and broke out two windows to make his escape.  He also dropped his personal cell phone when making his escape.  He was apprehended the following evening and is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Tuesday May 20th at 930am.

1058 am - 911 call of a loud, belligerent male at a business on 98th Street.  Subject left when police called and was not located and did not return.

 

1247 pm - A 1996 GMC Jimmy reported stolen from 101st Street.  Vehicle located in rural area completely burned a short time later.  Investigation is continuing.

 

132 pm - Report of several items damaged and stolen from a residence on 104th Street.

 

421 pm - 44 year old male arrested on 107th Street very intoxicated and in violation of his probation order.

 

629 pm - 7 year old child reported missing, last seen 6 hours earlier.  Members located child a short time later with some friends and returned home.

 

717 pm - Report of intoxicated persons neglecting to properly care for their children.  Four children between 1 and 8 removed from a home on Trudeau Street and turned over to sober family members after members located two very intoxicated persons at residence.

 

754 pm - 52 year old male arrested from Causing a Disturbance at a business on Railway Avenue East, very intoxicated and very noisy.  Charged under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act.

 

1104 pm - 15 year old youth reported missing from a group home.  Later returned on his own.

 

1130 pm - Male attended detachment claiming someone had tried to stab him.  When questioned on matter the male advised that was in fact not true, he simply got into a short fist fight with someone.  He was also quite intoxicated and on Probation with includes the condition not to consume alcohol.  Arrested and charged.

231 am - Shoplifting complaint from a business on 100th Street.  Suspect was already gone from area.  Surveillance footage for review pending.

 

359 am - Break and enter to a home on 1600 block of 101st Street.  One or more suspects fled when confronted by homeowners.  One suspect described as First Nations,  5'6", slim, mid-teens wearing a brown hoody.

 

958 am - 2002 Grey Ford Focus with Saskatchewan License 362 IYT stolen from 1400 block of 108th Street overnight, keys believed to have been left in ignition.

 

213 pm - Vehicle reported stolen from 96th Street overnight, found abandoned south of city in the afternoon.  Suspects believed to have been visiting the home previous day.  Investigation ongoing.

 

342 pm - Garage on 96th Street entered over night, some alcohol reported stolen.

 

357 pm - Collision between vehicle and a second parked vehicle on 1500 block of 99th Street.  No injuries reported, cause of collision remains under investigation.

 

410 pm - Two vehicle collision on 100th Street, 18 year old driver of one of the involved vehicles charged with Disobeying a red light.  No injuries reported.

 

703 pm - Two males arrested on 102nd Street after report of intoxicated people urinating in public.  44 year old male also being charged with Failing to Comply with probation, a 56 year old man is being charged under the alcohol and gaming regulations act.

 

746 pm - Shoplifting complaint from business on 100th Street, investigation ongoing.

 

938 pm - 52 year old man arrested and charged with Break and Enter after report of a break and enter in progress at a residence on 102nd Street.

 

1051 pm - Report of suspect(s) kicking a parked vehicle on 15th Avenue.  Some minor damage found to side of car.

 

1113 pm - Two 14 year old youth reported missing from youth group home.  Both returned on their own 4 hours later.

6:16 am - A 25 year old intoxicated male was arrested and charged for causing a disturbance, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. Once sober, he was released and will make his first court appearance on June 9.

 

6:43 am - Police responded to a call of a fight at an apartment on Winder Crescent; no assault had occurred and one party had left before police arrived.

 

7:53 - Report of mischief to property along Highway 16; still under investigation.

 

8:37 am - Complaint of a vehicle driving erratically on 102nd Street.  Police located the vehicle parked; an 18 year old male was arrested and charged with care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired and drive while prohibited. He will make his first court appearance later this month.

 

9:33 am - Report of a suspicious vehicle parked on 13th Avenue. Police attended; parked in no parking zone.

 

10:38 am - Complaint of intoxicated persons at a business on 101st Street; police located them a short distance away and they departed in a cab.

 

11:05 am - Report of a traveller accidentally left behind at a gas station by her family; they realized she was not present and returned to pick her up.

 

11:14 am - Report of theft from a business on Railway Avenue; still under investigation.

12:17 pm - Report of a suspicious hitchhiker on Highway 16; was picked up before located.

1:15 pm - Report of a suspicious male in the Killdeer area; not located.

 

1:22 pm - Report of a collision between a truck and parked cars at a business on Railway Avenue. The truck took off but was located by police; the 32 year old female driver was arrested and charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, drive without due care and attention and drive without a licence. She will make her first court appearance on June 9.

 

2:56 pm - A 45 year old male was arrested and charged with public intoxication; released when sober.

 

5:18 pm - Report of a child walking along Heritage Way by himself; police attended but did not locate any child in that area.

 

5:35 pm - Report of theft from a business on 101st Street; still under investigation.

 

5:56 pm - Report of a male assaulting his two small children on 11th Avenue. Male was located; no assault had occurred, however, he was intoxicated and breaching his conditions. He was arrested and remanded for court on May 20. The children were turned over to family members.

 

6:00 pm - Report of an assault on 112th. Victim declined to pursue charges and suspect warned.

 

6:13 pm - Report of a fire at a business on 102nd Street. Started because of a burner left on. Nothing criminal.

 

7:20 pm - Complaint of a disturbance on 105th Street. Police mediated an argument between residents of the house.

 

7:54 pm - Police attended to a residence on St. Laurent Drive regarding a male hallucinating. Nobody was hallucinating, the caller just wanted police to remove a guest; police obliged him and also charged him under the 911 Act.

 

8:30 pm - - Report of a suspicious male on Winder Crescent trying to smash a window of a vehicle; a 25 year old was located inside a residence and arrested for mischief. The vehicle owner declined to lay charges. Parties known to each other.

 

9:04 pm - Report of an erratic drivers on 95th Street; not located.

 

9:16 pm - Report of a suspicious male walking near King Hill; patrols made, not located.

 

9:41 pm - Report of a dog biting a child on 105th Street; still under investigation.

 

10:07 pm - A 41 year old male was arrested and charged with impaired driving, impaired over .08,  use wrong licence plate on vehicle, drive without a valid licence, and operate an unregistered vehicle. He was released when sober and will make his first court appearance May 18.

 

10:22 pm - Report of a suicidal male on Clarke Drive; the 18 year old male agreed to attend to the hospital.

 

10:28 pm - Report of a garbage being thrown from a moving vehicle; vehicle located and owner warned.

 

11:00 pm - Two females were arrested on 111th Street for public intoxication. One, 22 years old, is also charged with breaching her probation and is remanded to court on May 20.

 

11:22 pm - Report of a suspicious male in an alley near Deans Crescent; he left before police arrived; patrols negative.

 

11:36 pm - Report of someone knocking on doors on Campbell Crescent; patrols made, nobody located.

 

11:45 pm - Report of youth drinking in a backyard on 104th Street. Police attended and located one intoxicated 13 year old female. She was brought home by police.

1:07 am - Report that a 16 year old female had taken off from her residence after fighting with her sister. She returned home a short time later.

 

1:45 am - Report of youth drinking on 104th Street; they left before police arrived.

 

2:27 am - Report of a fight on 96th Street; parties involved departed before police arrived.

 

3:02 am - Report that a house was broken into and trashed; police attended and it was determined that the complainant's younger brother had guests over earlier and they were the ones responsible for the damage.

 

3:06 am - A 22 year old female was arrested and charged with impaired driving and impaired over .08. She will make her first court appearance later this month.

 

3:06 am - Two intoxicated females, ages 21 and 24, were arrested for break and enter to residence on 110th Street. They were both released when sober and will make their first court appearances next month.

 

5:20 am - Report of an unwanted female sleeping on the complainants couch; police attended and determined that the intoxicated female was in the wrong apartment. She was arrested for break and enter and lodged until sober. Complainant declined to lay charges.

7:12 pm - Complaint of a dog left in a vehicle outside a business on Territorial Drive; vehicle departed before police arrived

 

10:31 pm - Report of persons rummaging through a vehicle on 101st Street. Still under investigation.

 

8:00 pm - Report of youth drinking behind a school. Four male youth were located, one was in possession of an open bottle of alcohol and charged with minor possess beverage alcohol, under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act.

 

8:48 pm - Outside a business on 101st Street, a 32 year old male was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

 

8:55 pm - Report of a suspicious male on 104th Street; police attended and located an intoxicated 34 year old male who lived nearby. He agreed to stay inside his house.

 

9:19 pm - Two complaints of a car battery on the road on 18th Avenue. Battery removed.

 

9:23 pm - Police attended a residence on 103rd Street and mediate an argument between mother and son.

 

9:16 pm - Call of youth drinking in a backyard on 104th Street; youth scattered before police arrived and patrols were negative.

 

9:28 pm - Report of a single vehicle accident in a parking lot on Railway Avenue. Driver suffered minor injuries; still under investigation.

 

9:40 pm - Call of a disturbance on 104th Street. members attended and arrested one male youth for public intoxication and outstanding warrant. He was released when sober and will appear in court on a breach probation charge at a later date. The other youth left without incident.

 

10:51 pm - Complaint of youth trespassing in a yard on 104th Street; they departed before police arrived. Patrols negative.

 

11:38 pm - Police attended a residence on 104th Street and mediate an argument between a husband and wife.

 

11:36 pm - Report of a passed out male in a building on 103rd Street; a 41 year old male was arrested and charged with public intoxication; released when sober.

12:44 am - Police attended a residence on St. Laurent Drive after receiving a complaint that there were three young children left unattended. Social Services attended as well and apprehended three children, all under the age of three; still under investigation.

 

1:30 am - Complaint of someone trying to kick in a door on St. Laurent Drive; members attended and nothing of the sort had happened. A dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend was mediated and both parties went separate ways.

 

2:42 am - Police located a 34 year old male walking down 14th Avenue, no shoes, no shirt. He was arrested for public intoxication; released when sober.

 

3:14 pm - Report of an assault which occurred at a residence on 105th Street. Parties known to each other. Suspect departed before police arrived; still under investigation.

 

4:30 am - Report of an unwanted intoxicated female at a residence on 96th Street; she departed before police arrived.

The Kelvington/Rose Valley RCMP and Crime Stoppers are seeking assistance from the public in solving the following crime which happened between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM on Sunday May 11th, 2014. A pair of Motomaster brand tires were stolen from a residence on the 100 block of 4th Avenue West, in the Town of Kelvington, Saskatchewan. Kelvington RCMP will continue their investigation into the incident.

White Butte RCMP

***Update to the two previous releases. My apologies for the confusion on the lane of travel where the accident took place.***

 

At 9:37 pm on May 18, 2014, White Butte RCMP received a call of a pedestrian involved collision on Hwy #11 just east of the weigh scales between Regina and Lumsden.

 

A southbound vehicle struck and killed a 19 year old female from Regina who, according to witnesses, was walking in the middle of the highway. The vehicle and driver remained at the scene following the accident.

 

Hwy 11 southbound lane was restricted to one lane during the investigation which concluded at approximately 3:15 am.

 

RCMP were able to learn the identity of the female however at the request of the family, the name is not being released at this time.

 

This matter remains under investigation by the White Butte RCMP in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner. An autopsy has been ordered and will be performed this week.

Further to the previous release sent out, the highway has been fully reopened to traffic in both Northbound lanes.

 

Unfortunately, the only information that is known by the Communications Unit is that the pedestrian was hit just east of the weigh scales in the northbound portion of Highway 11. The deceased pedestrian was a female who's identity is not yet known.

The vehicle (and driver) which struck the female remained at the scene after the accident.

A follow up release will be forthcoming later today as more details are learned from the investigating detachment.

Melfort RCMP

On May 17, 2014 at 3:45 pm, Melfort RCMP responded to a call of a body in the Saskatchewan River. Marine researchers conducting work on an unrelated matter came across the body in the water. RCMP members attended and the body of an unidentified caucasian male was recovered from the river near Wapiti Regional Park (approximately 45 km North of Melfort, Saskatchewan).

 

Melfort RCMP continue to investigate and are working in conjunction with RCMP Major Crimes North and Office of the Chief Coroner, to positively identify the male.   An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday May 20, 2014 and further updates will be provided when they become available.

 

Melfort RCMP would like to stress the fact that the identity of the male located in the Saskatchewan River is NOT yet known. It is our hope that following the autopsy, the identity will be known but there is a possibility that further steps may need to be taken to confirm the identity.

Carrot River RCMP

On May 18th, 2014, Carrot River RCMP were dispatched to a bush fire approximately 30 kilometers North East of Arborfield, SK.

 

Two adult males along with six children had become lost and requested assistance to guide them out as there was heavy smoke in the area. The Carrot River Volunteer Fire Department as well as SERM Officers were also called and attended.

 

The two adult males and six children were all able to find their way out of the bush and to safety without injury.

 

Carrot River RCMP are recommending that citizens refrain from entering the forest area at this time due to Fire/Smoke risk.

Punnichy RCMP

9:10 pm

 

Punnichy RCMP, Yorkton General Investigation Section (GIS), Office of the Chief Coroner, along with an RCMP collision analyst are continuing their investigation into this collision.

 

At 3:43 pm, a 911 call came in regarding a collision on the 640 grid, 3 miles south of Punnichy, SK.

Upon arrival at scene, it was determined that a 2004 Toyota Tundra pickup truck was northbound on the 640 grid and had rear ended a road grader traveling in the same direction. The grader had one occupant (male operator suffering minor injuries) and the pickup had 6 occupants, including a female driver and 3 male / 2 female passengers. 2 males passengers were deceased on arrival by police at the scene - 37 year old from Sandy Bay, Sk and a 47 year old from Gordan's First Nation (aka George Gordon First Nation).

The remaining passengers and the driver, all from Gordon's First Nation, were found with varying degrees of injuries and were taken to hospital. One of the female passengers taken to hospital, succumbed to her injuries en route and is now deceased. She was 30 years of age.

The remaining 3 occupants (2 passengers and the female driver) are presently in hospital in Regina receiving care. Their exact medical status is not known.

 

The collision analyst is finishing up her on scene investigation and the road will be reopened shortly.

 

Punnichy RCMP would like to acknowledge and thank Lestock EMS, Lestock Fire and Rescue along with Cupar EMS and STARS for their assistance.

 

The cause of the collision is still being investigated at this time. Charges are pending.

Punnichy RCMP along with emergency responders are on the scene of a collision involving a vehicle and a road grader. It is on the 640 grid approximately 3 miles south of Punnichy, SK.

 

There are multiple injuries and two confirmed fatalities.

 

No further details are available at this time. An updated release will be forthcoming as information becomes available.

At approximately 10:15 pm yesterday, Wynyard RCMP members received a call of a single vehicle accident involving a moose. The accident occurred on Hwy. #35 approximately 7 kms  south of the community of Bankend,Sask.

 

A 23 year old female was driving in a Honda Civic on the Hwy when she collided with a moose.  The collision resulted in extensive damage and the vehicle was located submerged in a body of water along the side of the highway.  The female driver (lone occupant) was located deceased within the vehicle.

A collision analyst conducted an investigation of the accident scene. During the course of their investigation the highway was closed for a number of hours and has since been reopened.

 

Wynyard RCMP along with the Office of the Chief Coroner are continuing their investigations into this fatal accident.  An autopsy has been ordered and will be conducted next week.  

The name of the deceased will not be released at this time.
