Swift Current RCMP are advising the public to be aware of a banking information scam which is difficult to detect as fraudulent.

Back on April 28, RCMP were altered to the email banking information scam allegedly from one of the large banks. The email refers to a successful e-transfer sent to a person that the reader won't know, and advised that if you didn't authorize this transfer to click on a link at the bottom of the email. If the link is followed, the reader will be asked for all of their information, including name, address, date of birth, and banking account information.

Providing this information will give the scammer access to your bank acount and leave the respondent open to identiy fraud. This fraudulently obtained information could be used to obtain credit cards, loans, or other fraudulent identification.

The RCMP strongly urges anyone that receives this style of emal to ignore it or report it to your local RCMP.
