Meadow Lake RCMP
The Meadow Lake RCMP is currently investigating threats received at three elementary schools in Meadow Lake. Shortly after 1:00 p.m., today, the Gateway Elementary, Jubilee Elementary and the Lakeview Elementary Schools in Meadow Lake each received threats by telephone from an unknown caller. As a result of the threats, the local school division has decided to move students from these schools and the Jonas Samson High School to the Lions Park Hill (near Carpenter High School) via school buses. The Meadow Lake Christian Academic Centre has relocated all students for the time being as well. All students and staff in these schools have left the schools and are accounted for.
The local school division has placed Carpenter High School on lockdown.
Members from the Meadow Lake Detachment are on the scene and currently working with school officials to search the buildings and surrounding areas to determine if there is any cause for concern. RCMP Police Dog Services are en-route in the event their services are required.
As further information becomes available it will be released.
The previous message indicated that the missing man was seen by witnesses yesterday, that is incorrect, he was last seen on Wednesday afternoon. His personal effects were recovered yesterday.
As a result of a missing person investigation which commenced in the City of Saskatoon on May 14, investigation has given police reason to believe that the missing man, Michael O'Keefe, was last seen in the area of the South Saskatchewan River near a business known as the Berry Barn, south of Saskatoon. Because this location is in the jurisdiction of the RCMP responsibility for the investigation has been transferred from the Saskatoon Police Service to the Warman Detachment of the RCMP.
RCMP personnel and search and rescue volunteers are now focussing a ground and air search on the area in the vicinity of the river near the Berry Barn. Some personal effects that have been linked to the missing man were recovered yesterday near the river bank and witnesses have reported seeing the man in the area yesterday afternoon.
Police will be utilising ground and air resources to search the area throughout the day.
Michael O'Keefe is described as Caucasian, 80 years old, 5'8" tall, 190 pounds, medium build with a belly, balding grey hair combed over, light blue eyes, clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a burgundy sweater over a golf shirt, dark coloured shorts, white socks, black shoes and a red plaid golfer style cap.
Residents in the area of the South Saskatchewan River between the Berry barn and the City of Saskatoon are asked to report any possible sightings to police. The shoreline and adjacent lands are of particular concern.
