Rose Valley RCMP
This morning the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team conducted a dive operation in Nut Lake. As a result of the dive operation, it was determined that there was NO entrapment in the submerged black Ford Explorer Sport Trac.
Further investigation has confirmed that the vehicle was one reported stolen approximately one year ago from a farmyard south of Rose Valley.
If the public has information on this incident, please contact Rose Valley/Kelvington Detachment at 306-322-2550 or 306-327-1200 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
At approximately 9:40 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, an adult female was walking with a child behind Nawigizigweyas Education Centre on Yellow Quill First Nation when they noticed a vehicle submerged in Nut Lake, approximately 50 feet from shore. The vehicle is believed to be a newer model black Ford Explorer Sport Trac.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the possibility of the vehicle entering the water recently is not likely due to the presence of trees and bushes surrounding the body of water and the absence of tire tracks. It is likely that the truck may have been driven onto the water while it was frozen and entered onto the ice from another point around the body of water.
There is no indication that there is entrapment within the vehicle and as such, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team will be conducting a dive to confirm this on Friday, May 9, 2014. At this point, it is undetermined when, or even if, the vehicle will be removed from the water due to its location and the terrain.
Initial investigation indicates that the vehicle may be one that was reported stolen approximately one year ago from a farm south of Rose Valley. This cannot be confirmed until the vehicle VIN number and/or license plate is learned.
If the public has information on the owner of the vehicle, please contact Rose Valley/Kelvington Detachment at 306-322-2550 or 306-327-1200 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
