Saskatchewan RCMP

2014-04-28

09:02

Saskatchewan RCMP across the southern part of the province are responding to numerous complaints of vehicles in the ditches, jack-knifed semis, and collisions. In excess of 25 such events are being responded to by various RCMP detachments at this time.

There is a jack knifed semi on Hwy #11 approximately 8 kms north of Craik in the southbound lanes.  The majority of the highway is blocked however, smaller vehicles are being permitted to go around the semi.  There are larger vehicles and semis backed up for approximately 1 km north of the accident scene.  The tow trucks are enroute to remove the semi.  The male driver of the semi was taken to the Davidson health center with what are reported to be minor injuries.  Once the accident scene is clear, an update will be provided.

At the intersection of highways #47 and #361, there was a low speed collision with two vehicles.  One person was transported to hospital with what are reported to be minor injuries.  The driver of the second vehicle is okay.  In this accident it appeared as though the slushy / snow conditions caused one of the vehicles to go into the path of an oncoming vehicle.  At this time, the northbound lanes are obstructed and traffic is restricted to one lane in the area.  It is expected that the scene will be cleaned up and traffic back to normal within the hour.

With the snow continuing to accumulate, RCMP would like to advise motorists to drive with caution if they need to drive on the highways throughout southern Saskatchewan.  These conditions are less desirable and can be treacherous to drive in.  Until the conditions improve, travel is not advised.  Ensure you have an emergency kit in your vehicle, cell phone and sufficient gas if you must go on the highway.  With the increase in accidents and current road conditions, response times for emergency services will be adversely affected.
