Influenza vaccinations now available by appointment

Submitted

The Cypress Health Region’s public health nursing staff would like to remind the public that influenza viruses are present in the region’s communities and immunizations to guard against influenza can still be received from their offices. Immunizations are the number one defense against the influenza virus and other diseases that we can come into contact with.

Members of the public who are interested in receiving their influenza immunization can contact their local public health office or call toll-free at 1-866-786-2510 to make an appointment with a member of the public health nursing team. The nursing staff have been providing a large number of drop-in clinic opportunities over the past month, but will now be only providing influenza immunizations via the appointment process.

As of February 6th, a total of 13,900 doses of publicly funded influenza vaccine have been administered by the public health nursing team within the Cypress Health Region. Physicians and Nurse Practitioners have also provided immunizations to their patients.

In addition to ensuring that immunizations are up to date, there are other means to protect yourself and others from the effects of influenza and other similar diseases. You are reminded to cough and sneeze into the crook of your arm, stay away from others when you are feeling ill, practice good hygiene, frequent handwashing with soap and water, and regularly clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces on a regular basis.

If you have any further questions about influenza or the vaccine, please speak to your family physician or nurse practitioner, contact the provincial HealthLine at 8-1-1, or visit the Cypress Health Region’s website at www.cypresshealth.ca.
