Traffic still diverted on Highway #4 near Stewart Valley

Swift Current Rural RCMP have cordoned off the scene of a semi truck accident on Highway #4 near Stewart Valley after a hydrochloric acid spill earlier today.

A HAZMAT team from Alberta is en route to the scene to assist with clean up after an unknown amount of hydrochloric acid spilled following an accident at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Two farm properties were evacuated when RCMP set up a one-kilometer perimeter around the accident, and traffic continues to be diverted around the accident near the junction of Highway #4 and Grid #738.

The driver of the semi was treated and released at the scene. RCMP report that road conditions were good at the time of the incident, and alcohol is not a factor.

The roadway near the accident scene will be blocked until further notice.

The investigation into the cause of this accident is continuing.
