Strong winds buffeting the Southwest have resulted in a pair of Environment Canada wind warnings for the afternoon.
Both the Leader - Gull Lake, along with the Shaunavon - Maple Creek - Val Marie - Cypress Hills regions have been placed under wind warnings, with gusts as high as 90 kilometres per hour expected during the afternoon.
"A system tracking across Southern Alberta will move into west Central Alberta this afternoon bringing strong west to Southwest winds into the area. Strong winds have already developed over Southern Alberta and winds of 70 gusting to 90 kilometers per hour are expected to develop over Extreme Southwestern Saskatchewan this afternoon. Winds are expected to gradually diminish this evening as the sunsets."
A provincial summery of afternoon weather on the Environment Canada website at 4 p.m. recorded the following wind gust highs during the past hour:
Swift Current - 77 kilometres per hour.
Lucky Lake - 75 kilometres per hour.
Eastend - 72 kilometres per hour.
Val Marie - 71 kilometres per hour.
Maple Creek - 70 kilometres per hour.
Mankota - 66 kilometres per hour.
Leader - 59 kilometres per hour.
Cypress Hills Provincial Park - 54 kilometres per hour.
