Cypress Hill Grasslands MP David Anderson has been appointed to serve as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs during a series of parliamentary changes announced earlier today.

Anderson was one of 11 parliamentary secretaries to receive a new assignment on Sept. 19 when Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced a dozen parliamentary secretary appointments.

Anderson will now work closely with Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird (Ottawa West-Nepean) who has served in his portfolio since May 2011. Anderson takes over his current parliamentary secretary duties from MP Bob Dechert (Mississauga-Erindale) who had served in that position since May 2011.

Previously Anderson had served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food for the Canadian Wheat Board since February 2006, and in Oct. 2007 he added the extra responsibility as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources.

Anderson's duties as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources have been appointed to fellow Saskatchewan MP Kelly Block (Saskatoon–Rosetown–Biggar).

The other Saskatchewan appointment on Thursday involved MP Tom Lukiwski (Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre) assuming the duties as Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons.
