One person is dead and four others were injured during a single vehicle rollover on the TransCanada Highway between Tompkins and Piapot early Saturday morning.
RCMP from Maple Creek plus the Swift Current Rural RCMP detachment were called to the scene of the single vehicle accident at approximately 12:45 a.m. on July 27.
The westbound vehicle lost control and rolled while traveling on the TransCanada between Tompkins and Piapot. RCMP report one occupant was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other four occupants were transported to the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current with undetermined injuries.
No further details were being released until family of the deceased is notified.
An RCMP traffic collision re-constructionist was called to the scene to investigate, with the westbound lanes of the TransCanada closed for a period of 10 hours until the investigation was completed.
RCMP beieve a passing motorist may have witnessed the collision. RCMP were told that a vehicle pulling a trailer had initially stopped at the scene, but left prior to RCMP arrival. RCMP have no description of the vehicle or its trailer, but are hoping the occupants will contact police to provide any details.
