After being hammered by severe thunderstorms on Thursday, the extreme Southwest is bracing for another round of thunderstorms later this afternoon.

Environment Canada has extended a severe thunderstorm watch for the Shaunavon - Maple Creek - Val Marie - Cypress Hills forecast regions for this afternoon. An earlier issued watch in the Swift Current - Herbert - Cabri - Kyle - Lucky Lake forecast region was lifted earlier this afternoon.

The Environment Canada watch advises that a trough of low pressure, combining with moist unstable air and daytime heating, will produce strong thunderstorms. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe, with the watch covering all forecast areas connected to the Saskatchewan/US border.

Radar has been tracking a series of thunderstorm in an around Val Marie this morning and during the early part of the afternoon.

Early Thursday evening a tornado was reported near Dollard by storm spotters, with the storm dumping heavy rain and causing damage to trees in Shaunavon.
