Issues with Swift Current's residential waste collection have prompted City of Swift Current officials to offer free access to the landfill.
“Due to the recent difficulties that we have experienced with residential waste collection, we have decided to open up the Landfill for free residential waste disposal,” said Mitch Minken, City of Swift Current General Manager of Infrastructure and Operations. “We are working with our waste collection contractor, Waste Management, to resolve these issues promptly; however, we want to do everything in our power to ensure that residents can dispose of their household waste in a timely fashion.”
Until further notice, city residents can dispose of their residential waste free of charge at the City Landfill on the eastern boundary of the City. Residents who take their household waste to the City Landfill will be required to drive over the scale to be weighed, and will be directed to Cell 3 for disposal. Residents who are hauling loose materials are reminded to tarp their loads.
City Landfill hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
