The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is reminding motorists to watch out for construction areas during the long weekend, even if they seem empty.
Typically motorists are required to slow to 60 km/hr in construction zones when workers are present. However, the ministry says there are some cases where motorists are required to slow down regardless of whether workers are present.
Potential hazards include loose gravel and sharp drop-offs around the shoulder. Motorists are therefore encouraged to slow down, even if a construction site appears to be empty.
Drivers are encouraged to report any mislabeled construction zones by calling 1-306-244-5535.
