Centennial Co-chair Pat Friesen welcomes the crowd during the 2014 Homecoming Address.
Swift Current Mayor Jerrod Schafer, Premier Brad Wall were on hand to offer official greetings, while local artist Arthea Loran read one of her poems in honour of the city’s centennial.
“It’s just great to see this event finally taking place,” Centennial Committee Co-chair Pat Friesen said shortly after the address. “I’m really happy to see all the people out enjoying themselves.”
Friesen said the weather did have her worried for a bit, but she’s happy with the way the weekend has progressed so far, and hopes Swift Current residents come out to take advantage of what the Centennial has to offer.
“I’ve been watching the weather almost on an hourly basis,” she said. “I think (Saturday) looks good for the parade, so I’m hoping that we get a great day (on Saturday) and on Sunday so people can get outdoors and enjoy everything there is to enjoy.”
