Construction beginning at Intersection of 2nd Ave. N.E. and Chaplin St.
The intersection of 2nd Ave. N.E. and Chaplin St. in Swift Current's downtown core is undergoing a major reconstruction beginning today and extending into June.
Equipment was moved into the downtown area over the weekend so crews can begin the extensive reconstruction project on Monday morning. During the project, crews will be demolishing all surface and deep utility infrastructure at the intersection in order to install new sewer, water and storm mains. The project will also result in the installation of new decorative traffic lights and electrical components, and the sidewalk and roadway will be reconstructed.
Traffic will be re-routed around the intersection for four to six weeks.
City of Swift Current officials note that the replacement of water and sewer mains could result in short service interruptions to specific properties during the construction period. When services are resumed there will be precautionary three to four day boil water advisories.
Access to specific properties may be limited or altered during construction. Nearby residents will also have reduced street parking on 2nd Ave.
The project is anticipated to have an impact on businesses in the area, with city officials endeavoring to mitigate any negative impacts by communicating with business and residents throughout the project. They will be scheduing shut downs/tie-ines to best suit business and residents.
