P3 Architecture was presented with a 2013 Premier's Awards for Excellence in Design for their work on the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame located at the Credit Union iPlex in Swift Current.
P3 Architecture was one of seven winners of 2013 Premier's Awards, earning their recognition in the Interior Design category. The Premier's Awards of Excellence in Design were presented on Oct 25 during Design Week hosted by the Design Council of Saskatchewan.
As a juried competition, the Premier’s Awards of Excellence in Design recognizes outstanding applied design in Saskatchewan.
On the Design Council of Saskatchewan website http://designcouncil.sk.ca, they highlight some of the design features utilized in the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame.
"The Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame is an interactive and engaging venue that celebrates the rich hockey heritage of the province. The space is carefully organized to appeal to one’s sense of curiosity. The guest is lead on a journey that many legendary hockey players take: from humble beginnings on a frozen pond, to the grandeur and spectacle of an Olympic rink. From here the guest is enticed by displays of Saskatchewan’s own hockey heroes. After one has taken in all of the displays there is a theatre and an area for interactive games.
"The materials used within this space were carefully selected to make reference to different aspects of the sport of hockey. Throughout the Hall of Fame, one encounters display cases made from genuine hockey dasher boards, a glowing sports desk, a penalty box, poured concrete flooring polished to look like ice, and a feature chandelier composed entirely of hockey sticks. The chandelier, which was created exclusively for this space, is sculpturally pleasing as much as it is making exciting use of the main tool of the game.
"A new entry and vestibule for the Hall of Fame has been added into the existing arena. The entrance is reminiscent of a skating shack, a shelter from the harsh winter winds of the open plains.
"Besides a focus on the game of hockey, the design for the Hockey Hall of Fame required flexibility. The display cases were designed to be versatile as the content of the compact museum changes frequently. Furthermore, the entire space was created to transform into a unique conference space for the City of Swift Current.
Jerrod Schafer, Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame was ecstatic with the news.
“P3 Architecture did a tremendous job on the design and the final product is a facility that our community and province should be really proud of! They deserve this award and a great deal of credit for a beautiful design,” he stated in a press release.
