The City of Swift Current has officially joined close to 50 other utilities and facility owners that currently participate in the Sask 1st Call program.
Sask 1st Call is a "Call Before You Dig" service that provides a single point of contact with member utilities and underground facility owners. Sask 1st Call provides anyone planning to dig with the convenience and confidence they have identified the member underground facilities in the excavation area. The Sask 1st Call team is dedicated to the prevention of injury, death or unnecessary damage due to unsafe digging practices.
“Our city is the first municipality with electrical and water facilities to come on board in partnership with Sask 1st Call. Those wishing to dig or excavate within the City of Swift Current, including the Rural Water Pipeline areas, can now contact Sask 1St Call and be ensured that all City of Swift Current underground facilities will be located within two full working days. We are excited about this partnership as it provides a convenient method to access a single point of contact for underground facility locates. This is an important element for the safety of those excavating and helps improve the reliability of our utility systems," explained Mitch Minken, General Manager of Infrastructure & Operations for the City of Swift Current.
Sask 1st Call Manager Barb Tchozewski is also pleased with this new partnership.
“The involvement of the City of Swift Current has expanded our subscriber base which better serves the digging community and provides a very convenient method for excavators to request facility locating and work safely.”
