A special Oktoberfest fundraiser will be hosted on Oct. 5 to support the efforts of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #56 to raise $500,000 in order to complete major repairs at the aging downtown Swift Current building.
Dickson Agencies will be hosting an Oktoberfest at the Legion on Oct. 5, with a limited 300 tickets available and all proceeds from the evening supporting the Legion's fundraising efforts.
"The whole idea is all proceeds are going to be donated to the Legion," explained Scott Cassidy, an Insurance Broker with Dickson Agencies. "What we are is the facilitator of the event as Dickson Agencies. We are hoping to sell all 300 tickets, at $30 a ticket."
He admitted it wasn't until their business received a letter from the Legion requesting support that they were aware of the vital repairs needed at the Legion. After a meeting with Managing Partner Kevin Sutter, the business quickly started putting plans in action to host a fundraiser to help out the Legion's “Renew, Restore and Save the Legion Hall” initiative.
"The Legion needs a kickoff event for their fundraiser, so we see this event as that launch," Cassidy said.
They are encouraging people to attend the event, along with encouraging businesses to make a donation to the cause on Oct. 5.
"We're just hosting the event, and we want lots of people to come."
Doors for the evening open at 7 p.m., with Bakersfield performing. There will be "bucket draws", door prizes, along with some traditional Octoberfest games to make it more of a fun evening.
Ticket information is available by contacting Dickson Agencies at (306) 773-0624.
