Members of the Gull Lake Volunteer Fire Department along with farm neighbours spent three hours on Labour Day battling a field fire just east of Gull Lake.

Crews left the field around 4 p.m. after fighting the fire which easily spread because of the tinder dry conditions across the Southwest after two weeks of unseasonal heat. The fire was contained on the southside of the Canadian Pacific Railway main line, although an eastbound train was momentarily halted for safety reasons.

There were no reported injuries from the fire.
