A generous donation was presented to Southwest Homes recently thanks to the generosity of staff from Anchor Dental Group.
A total of over $4,000 was generated during Anchor Dental's fourth annual Charity Day on April 25. During the day all dental fees collected are directed to a charity of the staff's choice, with this year's funds supporting Southwest Homes. Previously the charity day has supported the Southwest Safe Shelter, Swift Current KidSport, and the Canadian Mental Health Association - Swift Current Branch.
Dr. David Stock admitted coming into work during a day you are working in support of a charity is a good feeling.
"It's a little bit easier to get out of bed on a day like this. You're doing something good for the community," Dr. Stock said. "Everyone feels pretty good at the end of day doing it."
Southwest Homes Executive Director Susie Eidem said they have an ideal project in mind for the unexpected funding, and they are aiming to use the money to help fund the purchase of a van to transport clients living in their recently opened new group home.
"For each of our group homes we like to have a vehicle accessible for the staff and the participants who live in that program, so this will be used for the latest house that we have," Eidem said.
"If we have a vehicle that they can access they can go out when they want to go out, to go for coffee, to go to the mall shopping. And they should be able to get in and out of that vehicle with ease...Having the right kind of vehicle is very much a benefit to our participants."
As a non profit agency that primarily receives only funding for necessities, generating the extra funds to purchase important extras are sometimes difficult to come by.
"Things that are bigger cost are harder to come by," she admitted. "This gives us a real boost and we appreciate that."
