Dancers from The Backstage Dance Co. have been putting the finishing touches on their routines for the Showcase for Kayley Lawrenz fundraising performance at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School on April 20 starting at 7 p.m.
A cancelled competition has allowed the Backstage Dance Co. to host a fundraiser to help out a former student.
The dance studio was slated to take part in a local dance competition this weekend but low numbers forced the event to be cancelled. The Backstage Dance Co. jumped at the opening in the calendar to host a benefit performance for former student Kayley Lawrenz. Lawrenz is a former dancer who was involved in a life changing car accident last spring.
“We thought this was a perfect opportunity to still have the students be able to dance and be able to help one of our own as well,” explained Miss Shauna Cuthbert. “She took classes in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical and pointe. She is a wonderful girl and we miss her in the studio.”
The ‘Showcase for Kayley Lawrenz’ will be held Saturday at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School beginning at 7 p.m. The showcase will have raffle items and a few silent auction items as well as serving refreshments and baking.
The event will feature a silent auction and raffle. Among the major prizes up for grabs are an Erik Karlsson jersey signed by the Ottawa Senators and a Chris Getzlaf signed Saskatchewan Roughriders jersey.
Another prize will be four tickets to the Saskatchewan Roughriders July 21 game against the Hamilton Tigercats. A night stay at the Best Western will also be among the prizes. Other items will include sunglasses, handbags, and baskets from many local businesses.
“It is going to be a wonderful night in honour of a wonderful girl. These funds will be used to help with her rehabilitation costs and education costs in the future,” explained Cuthbert.
The doors will open Saturday at 6 p.m. with rush seating. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the Backstage Dance Co. (306-778-2205) or Veena (306-741-4270).
