The Chinook School Division has developed a proposed school calendar for next year that includes the discontinuation of the February week-long break and the week-long Easter break. They would be replaced with a week-long break in March and more long week-ends in the spring. Swift Current MLA Brad Wall announced that he is seeking input from constituents on the calendar.
He noted the Ministry of Education is reviewing proposed calendars.
"Our government is moving to a consistent minimum 950 hours of student instruction and this change has school boards looking at calendar changes," said Wall. "Still – there remains room for the traditional February break and a significant Easter break as well."
Wall said he is hearing concerns from constituents about the loss of a February break and will represent the views of constituents on this matter.
"Constituents should feel free to contact my office at 306-778-2429, send emails to bradwallmla@sasktel.net or use social media to make their views known," he said.
Feedback is requested by March 1st so that the views of constituents can be taken into consideration as decisions are made.
