Snow fall amounts of 5 to 15 centimeters have fallen across the Southwest, and Environment Canada extended a series of blizzard warnings and winter storm warnings in anticipation for another 5 to 15 centimeters tonight and Friday morning.
While people were digging out following the drifting snow which fell on Thursday, Environment Canada was calling for additional heavy snow and blowing snow during the late evening and early morning hours. They were forecasting that the snowfall would easy Friday morning.
In an evening weather advisory, Environment Canada highlighted that gusty winds had also resulted in extensive low visibilities in blowing snow. The strongest winds were recorded in the Shaunavon region and local blizzard conditions would persist much of the night. Shaunavon had recorded winds above 50 kilometers per hour between 1 p.m. and midnight, with a high gust of 73 kilometers per hour.
