A small plane made an emergency landing in a field near Swift Current Sunday evening, Sept. 9.

At approximately 11:37 p.m., members of the RCMP in Swift Current received a call regarding a small plane that was reported to be in distress over the Swift Current area.  The plane was reportedly low on fuel and was hoping to land at the Swift Current airport.  The plane had only one occupant which was the pilot, a 72 year old male from Saskatoon.

At 11:50 p.m., contact was made with the male pilot who was reported to be located a few kilometers east of the Swift Current airport on a grid road.  He was walking away from the plane and was reported to have minor injuries and is currently in Hospital in Swift Current.  He was transported to Hospital by members of the Swift Current Fire Department.

At 12:30 a.m., members of the Swift Current RCMP were able to locate the aircraft and determined the GPS coordinates for the plane location to be N 50.26577  W 107.57452.  The elevation was 803 metres.  The location of the plane is described as a rural field.

This incident continues to be investigated by the Swift Current RCMP and members have consulted with the Transportation Safety Board as part of their investigation.
