Anglers will be busy testing a variety of lures and bait during Saskatchewan's free fishing weekend on July 7 and 8.

All anglers, including visitors from outside the province, can fish in Saskatchewan without having to purchase a licence during the upcoming weekend.

"Saskatchewan is one of the world's top destinations for freshwater fishing," Environment Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "This weekend is an excellent opportunity for people of all ages to learn about and enjoy the sport of fishing and to recognize the importance of our fish and aquatic resources."

Individuals planning to take advantage of the Free Fishing Weekend are reminded that all other fishing regulations, including possession limits and reduced limits on some lakes and rivers remain in effect. The free fishing weekend opportunity does not apply in national parks.

Despite it being a free fishing weekend, anyone planning to take fish out of the province must purchase a licence.

For more information about fishing in Saskatchewan pick up a copy of the 2012 Anglers' Guide, available wherever fishing licences are sold, or visit online at www.environment.gov.sk.ca.
