Three Swift Current men received jail sentences for their part in a break and enter at Fine Furniture Oasis on May 26.

The trio were facing charges in connection with the theft of seven television sets with a value of $9,000 during the theft. The men were arrested on May 31 and were in custody while awaiting their June 4 provincial court date.

James Richard McManus, 27, received a sentence of two years less a day for his prominent role in the theft. As an employee of Fine Furniture Oasis, he was one of two men who entered the business through a basement window which had been boarded up. Once inside he knew the code to disarm the alarm system and he and one of the co-accused had a long period to take the television sets from the business.

Russell Martin Blake, 31, received a three month jail term for his participation in the break in.

Trevor Dean Fehr, 35, was handed a three month jail sentence for possession of stolen property and was assisting the other individuals in selling the stolen TVs.

Four of the television sets have not been recovered.

Swift Current RCMP continue to investigate a recent rash of business break and enters. It is estimated that in the past six months there have been 28 break and enters or thefts from local businesses.
