Duane Filson, a farmer from Woodrow, was acclaimed as the Liberal candidate for the federal riding of Cypress Hills-Grasslands at a nomination meeting held in Gravelbourg on July 23.
"I plan to attend several events before the summer is over, and I will continue to crisscross the riding from now until the election is held," Filson promised.
He fully supports Michael Ignatieff's mandate of "closing the divide between urban and rural Canada," citing the development of business risk management programs as just one way of assisting farmers, and "writing down" student loans for doctors and nurses who choose rural practices.
Filson is a strong supporter of the Canadian Wheat Board who criticizes Prime Minister Stephen Harper for showing his contempt for the democratic rights of Canadians by proroguing Parliament, not once, but twice.
Filson made only three promises: "I promise to represent the citizens of southwest Saskatchewan fairly and responsibly. I promise to listen to everyone's concerns, not just those who agree with me. And I will never forget where I came from."
Filson, who is also reeve of the Wood River RM, has scheduled a barbecue in Eston on August 5 to launch his Parliamentary campaign.
