A $3.2 million resurfacing project on the TransCanada Highway near Rush Lake will be proceeding this year with a cost-shared funding arrangement by the federal and provincial governments.
The 17 kilometer project will involve the resurfacing of the eastbound lane of the TransCanada from Rush Lake to west of Waldeck. The project was the lone Southwest repaving project in the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure November 2009 Phase One Tender Release back in November.
Cypress Hills Grasslands MP David Anderson noted the project will benefit from accelerated infrastructure funding from the federal government.
“Our Government is making smart investments that will inject additional capital into our local economy and keep people working during these tough economic times while improving Saskatchewan’s infrastructure,” Anderson stated. “This infrastructure will contribute to our quality of life, as well as help to boost our regional economy now and for years to come.”
“I am pleased to see our provincial government with the federal government working together to improve Highway #1 and enhance the quality of life in our area,” said Thunder Creek MLA Lyle Stewart. “This investment represents our government’s commitment to ensuring our province continues to move forward.”
The federal and provincial governments are accelerating infrastructure spending across Saskatchewan providing funding to provincial and municipal construction-ready projects. Through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund the federal government is providing $116 million in funding for 150 projects across Saskatchewan. With provincial and municipal contributions included, the overall investment grows to more than $275 million.
