Over 600 pounds of marijuana seized during RCMP traffic stop near Swift Current

The Swift Current RCMP Traffic Unit seized over 600 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop west of Swift Current on Feb. 6.

Swift Current Regional Traffic Services found much more than they bargained for after pulling over a speeding motorist on Saturday night.

The RCMP stopped an eastbound motorist just outside of Swift Current at approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday on a speeding violation, but the RCMP ended up seizing over 600 pounds of Cannabis Marihuana as they seized in excess of $5,000 from the driver. The driver was arrested and remanded in custody for a court appearance on Monday.

Toronto resident Claude Fournier, 48, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and the Criminal Code offence of possession of property obtained by crime less than or equal to $5,000.

Fournier was released with a court date set for March 24.
